It is interesting how much people care about celebrities. We need to know about their relationships, if they are getting adult acne treatments, if they have a drug or alcohol problem. Of course, we always claim that we wouldn’t be like that if we had the money and/or the fame, but would we?

I am always reminded of a song from Finian’s Rainbow – When the Idle Poor Become the Idle Rich. I love this part of the lyrics:

When a rich man chases after dames
He’s a man about town,
A man about town.
But when a poor man chases after dames
He’s a bounder, he’s a rounder
He’s a rotter, and a lot of dirty names!

I guess it matters how much money you have on how you get treated. You can see the full song sung by Fred Astaire here.

There are so many events to attend and I had to make sure that I sent out the invitations for my daughter’s 5th grade graduation. School officially ends next Wednesday so between now and then I will be posting a lot less. This summer, look for some posts about great summer movies of the past!

When I was young, we only had one television in our house. We watched what our Dad wanted to watch. I learned to love watching sports and The Rockford Files. The dial was the old turner type and my brother actually devised a stick he could use the turn the channels while sitting on the couch. We only only had a few channels: 2, 4, 5, 7, 11 and 13. Plus there was UHF were you could watch ZOOM or Sesame Street.

Now I have a LCD TV. The picture is clearer and I actually have a remote control. Plus I have cable and have hundreds of channels. Maybe this has just made us all a little bit lazier!

So right now, I want to make it clear that I never have spyware running on my blog. The only statistics that I collect, are what pages are visited. This gives me an idea of what pages are the most popular and what people like when they come to my blog.

I recently had to fly to Salt Lake City for a funeral and decided to take my Laptop with me. Bad Idea. It was very heavy and I didn’t realize that there wasn’t a wireless network card installed. So, I had to lug the thing around and didn’t get any blogging done! Instead, I think I want to look into netbooks. Netbooks are scaled down laptops that you can use for email, web browsing and instant messaging. They can also be used for store videos and music. These Netbooks weigh less than 2 pounds, so they won’t weigh you down on the road!

Someone suggested that wood blinds might be a better option for this kind of room. Blinds can make the room a bit darker without having the room too dark!

Do you remember those little chocolate candies that were actually diet pills in disguise? I can’t remember the name of them. I am sure that they weren’t the best weight loss pills, but they sure did taste good.

Now, with all the hype that dark chocolate can be good for you, I thought I would share this delicious recipe from Prevention Magazine.

Chocolate Pudding with Bananas and Graham Crackers

TIME: 20 minutes + chilling time

SERVINGS: 6

3 whole graham crackers, crushed
1 lg ripe banana, sliced
1⁄2 c sugar
1⁄4 c unsweetened cocoa powder
3 Tbsp cornstarch
1⁄8 tsp salt
3 c 1% milk
1⁄2 tsp vanilla extract
1 1⁄2 c semisweet or dark chocolate chips (MUFA)

1. DIVIDE graham cracker crumbs evenly among 6 custard cups or ramekins. Press into bottom. Top with banana, reserving a few slices for garnish.
2. MIX sugar, cocoa, cornstarch, and salt in large saucepan. Stir in milk. Whisk over medium heat until pudding thickens and comes to a boil.
3. COOK 1 minute longer. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Pour into prepared custard cups. Cover with plastic wrap and chill for at least 2 hours. Top each serving with 1⁄4 cup of the chocolate chips and garnish with reserved banana.

Nutritional Info Per Serving
391 cal, 7 g pro, 65 g carb, 4 g fiber, 15 g fat, 8.5 g sat fat, 6 mg chol, 150 mg sodium

When I went to college back in the 1980s, there was (and still is) a Federal program called Pell Grants. Since my family did not make a lot of money, I was able to receive my tuition money from the Federal Government. This really helped me, since I had to scrimp through the year on the money that I made every summer working. I always had just enough to pay for my rent, food, books and other supplies. I didn’t have a car, go out to eat very often, or buy expensive clothes and shoes like I see a lot of college kids doing these days.

Back then, we didn’t have TuitionWise student loans, which will loan up to $40,000 for college. More money would have made my life a little easier in college, but the struggle also helps build character. My children will definitely not be living high on the hog when they are in college!
