These celebrities are not just using a pull up bar to get these muscles, this takes hours of work, every day! I think firm muscles look nice, but some of these are kind of scary.

You can see a number of these buff ladies here. Don’t worry, the pictures are perfectly decent, they are just showing off the muscley arms of these women!

Whatever happened to a more feminine body look?

I recently saw Jack LaLanne advertising a juicer that he claims does wonders for his health. He looks great for a man who will turn 96 this year!

Jack LaLanne was born on September 26, 1914 in San Francisco, California. His parents were immigrants from France. When he was a boy he was addicted to sugar and junk food until, at age 15, he heard on talk on nutrition and health. This changed his outlook and he began focusing on bodybuilding and weightlifting.

LaLanne graduated from Chiropractic school in 1936 and opened his own health spa complete with fitness equipment that he designed including leg extension machines.

LaLanne hosted a television program for 34 years that presented fitness and exercise advice. He has also published books, videos, appeared in movies and has even recorded a song.

Every day LaLanne spends 1 1/2 hours in the weight room and then 1/2 hour either walking or swimming.

Jack LaLanne has been married twice and his four children. His current wife, Elaine is 83 and they live in Morro Bay, California.

Hollywood has a new movie in the works about The Three Stooges. It is still unclear if the movie is based on their lives or is meant to be a comedy movie in the style of other Three Stooges movies. Jim Carrey has been asked to play Curly and you won’t catch him indulging in the best weight loss pills anytime soon: he has to gain 50 pounds for the role.

Curly Howard was not one of the original Three Stooges which consisted of Moe Howard, Shemp Howard and Larry Fine. Shemp quit the act in 1932 due to managerial problems and Jerome Lester “Jerry” Horwitz (Moe and Shemp’s brother) was asked to join the group. Jerry appeared with red hair and a mustache and Manager Ted Healy reported said he did not look funny. Jerry went to next room and shaved his head bald “Boy, do I look girly.” Healy thought he heard “Curly,” and that is how he got his name.

Curly’s insecurities about his weight and looks caused him to drink and gain weight. In 1947 he suffered a stroke and was replaced by Shemp. He had a second massive stroke in 1948 and was confined to a wheelchair by 1950. He was admitted to a nursing home but his mental condition deteriorated and he was moved to a different facility. On January 18, 1952, Curly died of a massive cerebral hemmorage. He was only 48 years old.

John Huston was one of my favorite directors. He directed such films as The Maltese Falcon, The Asphalt Jungle, The African Queen, Moby Dick and The Man Who Would Be King. He was also a screenwriter (The African Queen, Moby Dick and more) and an actor. Unfortunately, he was also a heavy smoker. He suffered from emphysema and saw him several times with a device such as a evergo oxygen concentrator to give his lungs more oxygen.

Huston died on August 28, 1987 at the age of 81, but his great work will live on.

While I was not a big fan of Bret Michaels (lead singer of Poison) at the start of the show, I have seen a different side of him. The older contestants (Sharon Osborne, Michael Johnson, Cyndi Lauper, etc.) are always my favorite. Not because the may have the need of wrinkle eye cream, such as prevera, like I do, but they have better life experiences.

Bret Michaels recently was hospitalized for a brain hemorrhage. Our prayers go out to him and hope that he makes a full recovery.

Patrick Stewart. As Captain Jon Luc Picard, he made a splash with this clean head.

The 1000 Pound Woman does not yet exist, not yet anyway. A woman in New Jersey who wants nothing to do with dieting, diet pills or weight loss is hoping to reach the 1000 pound mark so that she can be in the Guiness Book of World Records. Really?

Donna Simpson, who currently weighs in at 602 pounds is eating as much as she can. She claims to be healthy and that she has the right to weight what she wants. She thinks she is not harming anyone and yet she is. She is harming herself and you the taxpayer. Donna can’t walk more than 20 feet (she needs a motor scooter to move around) and she eats about 12,000 calories a day.

And you, the taxpayer, could wind up paying for it. Simpson supports herself by running a website where people can watch her eat. But it is unclear what type, if any, health insurance coverage she has. Obesity causes a 42% increase in health care costs and if she can’t pay for it, we all know who will.

Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen, was also known as Baron von Richthofen. My kids have been listening to the Royal Guardsmen CD which features a song titled “Snoopy and the Red Baron.” So I just had to find out about the Baron.

Manfred was born May 2 1892 in Kleinburg,Prussia (which is now part of Poland) into an aristocratic family. He started his military training when he was only 11 years old. He finished his training in 1911 and joined a cavalry unit. When World War I began, Manfred was a reconnaissance officer on horseback, but due to machine gun fire and barbed wire this type of reconnaissance became impossible. He requested a transfer to the Imperial German Army Air Service and it was granted in May 1915.

At first, Manfred was an observer on missions, but in October 1915, was trained as a pilot. He won his first victory in September 1916. After his first victory, he had a silver cup engraved with the date and type of enemy plane (or machine). He did this until he had 60 cups. After that silver was in such short supply in Germany that he couldn’t continue with the tradition. His nickname “The Red Baron” came from the color of his plane.

His success was due in part to his superb marksmanship and the fact that he was great squadron leader and tactician. He received a head wound in one battle, but was able to land the plane. After this incident he often suffered from headaches. He refused to take a desk job, however and on April 21, 1918 he had his final combat.

Manfred was pursing a Sopwith Camel piloted by Canadian Lieutenant Wilfrid “Wop” May of No. 209 Squadron, Royal Air Force. Manfred was in turn, attacked by a Camel piloted by Canadian Captain Arthur “Roy” Brown. It is believed that Manfred was hit by a bullet that caused damage to his heart and lungs, however he was able to make a controlled landing in a nearby field. When soldiers reached the plane, Manfred died a few moments later.

It was first believed that Brown killed The Baron, but later studies show that the shot must have come from ground. The Baron’s victories number at least 80 and could be as high as 100.

Here is the song my kids love!
