Edmund Gwenn is probably one of the most famous faces of Santa Claus. He played the man in the red suit in the 1947 movie Miracle on 34th Street.

Gwenn was born Edmund John Kellaway in Wandsworth, London on September 26, 1877 and began actin in the theatre in 1895 at the age of 18. He impressed the playwright George Bernard Shaw who cast him in six of his plays. Gwenn interrupted his acting career to serve in World War I.

Gwenn appeared in over 80 films during his lifetime such as Pride and Prejudice (1940), Of Human Bondage, Cheer Boys Cheer and Miracle on 34th Street. He moved in Hollywood in 1940. He was nominated and received the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his role of Kris Kringle in Miracle on 34th Street. He remarked when receiving the award “Now I know there is a Santa Claus!”

Edmund Gwenn passed away twenty days before his 82nd birthday in 1959. He died from pneumonia after suffering a stoke.

One of the characters, Milton Waddams, is obsessed with his stapler:

Milton Waddams: [talking on the phone] And I said, I don’t care if they lay me off either, because I told, I told Bill that if they move my desk one more time, then, then I’m, I’m quitting, I’m going to quit. And, and I told Don too, because they’ve moved my desk four times already this year, and I used to be over by the window, and I could see the squirrels, and they were married, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn’t bind up as much, and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and it’s not okay because if they take my stapler then I’ll set the building on fire…

You will have to see the end of the movie to see what happens!

It is a fabulous tale of the vampire-rat mafia in Havana. They run an underground solarium, very profitable, as the vampires cannot go to the beach. Enter the old scientist, who has invented something that makes the vampires stand the real sun – VAMPISOL! The mafia wants to stop this product from being commercialized, as it will ruin their business.

I came across this movie because I saw an ad for padron cigars for sale and next to it was a poster from the movie with a vampire smoking a cigar. This peaked my curiousity and I investigated further. The film is Not Rated and was released in 2004.

Hollywood has been remaking movies since the beginning of movie time and this is the next one on the list.

The original movie was released in 1954 and directed by Jack Arnold. The movie starred Richard Carlson, Julia Adams, Richard Denning, Antonio Moreno, and Whit Bissell. The creature was played by two actors: Ben Chapman on land and Ricou Browning in underwater scenes.

The film was original shot in 3-D and later released in the 1970s in a non-3D format. The plot involves an expedition to the Amazon where the creature is discovered. The creature kills a number of people, before kidnapping the girl and then being shot. The creature disappears into the lagoon.

Here is an image of what the new creature is going to look like.

Four Weddings and a Funeral is a 1994 British comedy that featured Hugh Grant (Charles) and Andie McDowell (Carrie). The film follows a group of friends from Charles’ point of view. He meets up with Carrie at four different weddings and a funeral. Although Charles did not have to plan a funeral, but he does give a speech and recites the poem “Funeral Blues” by W.H. Auden.

The fourth wedding is actually the wedding of Charles to Henrietta. Carrie attends the service and the wedding is called off. In the end, Charles and Carrie end up together, but not married.

This film is quite funny and Hugh Grant is adorable!

I have not yet seen the new True Grit movie and I am not sure that I will. I have always been a fan of John Wayne and really can’t see anybody else play Rooster Cogburn. I went to a local store to try and buy a copy of the 1969 version of True Grit, but their POS systems were screwed up and they couldn’t even tell me if they had a copy, so I decided to order it from Amazon instead.

The movie is based on the 1968 novel of the same name by Charles Portis. Wayne won his only Academy Award for his portrayal of Rooster Cogburn. When this film was shot in Colorado, Wayne had already had one of his lungs removed and could not walk for any length of time without having trouble breathing. The horse in the film became one of Wayne’s favorites and was used in his last film, The Shootist.

In the movie Super Size Me, Morgan Spurlock explores the consequences on his health of a diet of solely McDonald’s food for one month. The results are very interesting indeed! I wonder what would happen if everyone in America stopped eating fast food for a month?
