The 1000 Pound Woman
The 1000 Pound Woman does not yet exist, not yet anyway. A woman in New Jersey who wants nothing to do with dieting, diet pills or weight loss is hoping to reach the 1000 pound mark so that she can be in the Guiness Book of World Records. Really?
Donna Simpson, who currently weighs in at 602 pounds is eating as much as she can. She claims to be healthy and that she has the right to weight what she wants. She thinks she is not harming anyone and yet she is. She is harming herself and you the taxpayer. Donna can’t walk more than 20 feet (she needs a motor scooter to move around) and she eats about 12,000 calories a day.
And you, the taxpayer, could wind up paying for it. Simpson supports herself by running a website where people can watch her eat. But it is unclear what type, if any, health insurance coverage she has. Obesity causes a 42% increase in health care costs and if she can’t pay for it, we all know who will.
