Vampire stories have existed for ages. The original tales of vampires involved feeding on the life essence of living creatures. Vampires would often visit loved ones and cause mischief or deaths. Vampires were described as bloated and dark.

Compare this to the modern vampires we see in New Moon. These vampires are modern in every way. They go to school, use modern technology, such as laptops and iPods and they don’t turn into bats. They are described as beautiful.
