The United States does not hold the market on artificial Christmas trees, Artificial Christmas trees were first developed in Germany in the 1800s. These trees were made using goose feathers that had been died green. Due to deforestation in Germany, the feather trees were made to give an alternative to a real tree.

The feather tree became popular in United States in the early 1900s. Today,most artificial trees are made out of 100% recycled plastics.
