My 6 year old son is fascinated with Star Wars. He wants to be Luke Skywalker when he grows up. I found this cool video about how to make your own light saber. They actually tell you the tricks that the movie makers used. The originally Star Wars movie did not have a big budget and they used what they could find to make parts, such as industrial clamps, flash guns and other junk that was lying around.
