Alice

December5

This is one show from the 70s that I never got – Alice. The funny thing is, it ran from August 1979 to July 1985, so it must have had some kind of following. The show was about a widow, who moves with her son (Tommy) to start live over again. One the way, the car breaks down and you see them outside an apartment building with their Delsey luggage. Since Alice needs money, she takes a job at “Mel’s Diner,” a roadside diner outside of Phoenix, Arizona.

The whole series pretty much revolved around what happened at Mel’s Diner, which wasn’t much. Pretty corny 70s style humor. In 1980, one of the waitresses, Flo, went off to star in her own series (of course, named “Flo”).

A number of character changes happen throughout the years and Tommy goes off to college. In the end, Alice finally gets a singing contract and moves to Nashville. And of course, at the same time, the other two waitresses have life-changing events and Mel sales his diner as well. Nicely wrapped up.

You will remember that Flo’s signature phrase was “Kiss my grits!” Polly Holliday, who played Flo, has not said this line since the show ended.

Here are the opening credits:

Nicholas Hammond

December5

There have been a few actors that have played Spiderman and Nicholas Hammond was the first. Hammond was born on May 15, 1950 and appeared in his first film, Lord of the Flies, at age 10. In 1965, he was chosen to play one of the Von Trapp children (Friedrich) in The Sound of Music, starring Julie Andrews. When filming for The Sound of Music started, Hammond was 5 foot 3 inches tall. By the end of filming he was 5 foot, 9 inches tall!! He also played the boy (Doug Simpson) who loses interest in Marcia Brady after her accident with the football.

Hammond was cast as Peter Parker from 1977 to 1979. A stunt double was used to shoot Spiderman when he was in costume. After the cancellation of the series, Hammond was asked to appear in a mini-series in Australia. He moved there in the mid-1980s and has been living there ever since. He has appeared in a number of Australian mini-series and television programs.

Personalized Books

December5

Remember, when the best we could get to a personalized book was to write our name on the pages? Now, you can get personalized books with the child’s name printed in the pages from Frecklebox.com! Children books that actually have their name in it. This one is so cute. It actually has the child’s name written in nature such as leaves, clouds, flowers, ladybugs and pigeons.

I received two personalized products for my son. When he received them, he was so excited. He loves to see his name in print and I think that this is now his prized possession. He is planning on taking it to school to show the other children and his teacher.

Both of the books are coloring books and crayons are included! Here is a sample page from one of the books, you can see how it is personalized.

If you are looking for a cute decoration for you child’s room, they also have Personalized posters. You can order a firetruck, race car or flowers to name a few.

Personalized puzzles are also fun, and they even have one with a Christmas scene. Santa is in his sleigh in the sky and the child’s name is spelled out in the stars. Or, choose a sugar cookie puzzle!

I plan on getting the Zoo Personalized Book for my nephew. He loves animals and there are great real pictures of animals in the book. One each of the pages, the animals address your child by name.

These products are great gifts, I wish they had these when I was a kid.

Celebs Without Makeup

December2

I am always surprised that people are shocked when they see certain celebrities without their makeup. Come on people! Makeup can cover a lot of flaws and celebrities are just regular people. They get wrinkles, need acne treatment, have splotchy skin and even get bags under their eyes. Unfortunately, too many young people (and older people) compare themselves to celebrities. Here is a video clip that someone complied of celebrities without makeup. Remember, beauty is only skin deep!
