Baby Wipes

March3

Before the invention of those expensive baby wipes, mothers would use cloth towels and water to wipe their baby’s skin. The technology to create baby wipes was created in the 1970s. Baby wipes contain mostly water. They also contain mild detergents mixed with moisturizing agents, fragrance and preservatives. Chemicals with names such as sodium diamphoacetate and coco phosphatidyl PG-dimonium chloride are used. You can also find propylene glycol, glycerine and propyl paraben in baby wipes.

If you want something more natural, you can make your own baby wipes. Use an old baby wipe box and buy some paper towels (such as Viva with the select-a-size). Tear off the paper towels (smaller size) and fold to fit inside the box. There are a variety of recipes at Natural Birth and Baby Care that will fit your needs!

Leap Year

March3

February 29th is such a strange date. It only appears once every four years. Why? We add a day to the calendar every four years because the Earth’s orbit around the Sun is not EXACTLY 365 days, it is approximately 365.25 days. Thus we add on day every four years to keep the seasons aligned.

It has been said that women are allowed to propose marriage on Leap Day. If you are born on Leap Day, you must choose your birthday as either February 28 or March 1.
