The ultimate weight gain film has to be Raging Bull. Robert DeNiro first used weight equipment to become the slim, muscular boxer in the film. All of the boxing scenes and related scenes were shot first.
The second part of the film was shot several months later. During those months, DeNiro gained 60 pounds! The young boxer was transformed into the older, washed up boxer for the film. I certainly do not recommend this method for weight gain, but it would be nice for weight loss!

Who can forget the catchy theme song for this television show? Love, American Style aired on ABC from 1969 to 1974. For two season it was part of the Friday night lineup that included The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, Room 222 and The Odd Couple. It was a one hour show that featured different stories about romance each week. Different actors were used in the episodes.
Aaron Spelling, who created the series, would often use failed parts of other pilot TV shows for the series. After Garry Marshall created Happy Days, he unsuccessfully tried to market it for a series. Spelling used the pilot in one of the Love, American Style spots. After the success of the movie American Graffiti and the Broadway musical Grease, ABC decided to air Happy Days and it became a huge hit.
Here is the opening credits for the Happy Days episode:
There are trade shows for everything, even movies. I think it would be so cool to be able to attend a movie trade show. I am sure that the trade show displays are fabulous. They have seminars on digital cinema, movie theft and even concessions. Plus, you get to pre-screen movies from the Holiday 2008 movie schedule.
Unfortunately, they don’t let anyone off the street into these trade shows. You have to be affiliated with a major, regional or independent movie theater circuit. I don’t think having a blog about movies will qualify me, do you?
Lately, I have been watching movies on my laptop. It is very convenient and I can take the laptop anywhere. However, it looks like I will probably need more laptop memory because the laptop tends to run a bit slow when I am trying to watch a movie and do work at the same time!
The problem with watching movies on the laptop is the screen size. I often keep two screens open so that I can watch and work at the same time. I do not suggest this method for watching any movie with great special effects.
Who hasn’t seen the movie Jaws? The movie was made in 1975 and starred Roy Scheider. I remember going to the movie theater with my best friend and my brother. We kept asking my brother what happens next since he had read the book. The worst part was, I grew up in Southern California. No one wanted to swim at the beach that summer!
Roy Scheider starred in the movie and was great in the role. I have seen him in other movies, but he will still be the Jaws man to me!
Roy Scheider was born November 10, 1932 in Orange, New Jersey. He studied drama at Rutgers University and Franklin and Marshall College. He then served three years in the US Air Force. After the Air Force, Scheider appeared in the New York Shakespeare Festival and received and Obie Award.
He starred in his first film in 1963 and then in supporting roles in Klute and The French Connection. His role in The French Connection earned him an Oscar nomination.
In 1975, he starred in the blockbuster movie Jaws. His famous line in the movie (which was ad libbed) – “You’re gonna need a bigger boat” – is number 35 on the American Film Institute’s list of best movie quotes.
Roy Scheider made a number of movies, a list of which can be found here. Although I recognize many of the movies, he will still be most remembered for Jaws.
Scheider was married in 1962 to Cynthia Bebout and they had one daughter. The couple divorced in 1989. Scheider then married Brenda King. They had a son and a daughter.
Scheider was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2004 and received a bone marrow transplant in 2005. The cancer was said to be in partial remission. Scheider died on February 10, 2008 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He had just finished two movies that will be released in the future – Dark Honeymoon and Iron Cross.
It is amazing how thousands of people have died from lung cancer and mesothelioma, but no one calls for a good testing method until a few celebrities die from lung cancer.
After the deaths of Peter Jennings and Dana Reeve, both from lung cancer, a bigger spotlight is being placed on a test called a spiral or helical CT scan. This test detects lung abnormalities as small as 5 millimeters. The problem arises when there are a large number of false positives. If the test is positive, it usually calls for a biopsy. A biopsy is a more costly and risky procedure. If a cancer if found, the treatment may be more risky than letting the cancer grow since some cancers will grow relatively slowly.
Doctors and patients must weigh the risk/benefit of such a procedure no matter what celebrities have to say in the matter.
Why do we always think that celebrities are the model to follow when it comes to a href=”http://www.lab88.com/”>weight loss? Let’s take a look at the facts:
Celebrities can afford to hire personal cooks.
Celebrities can afford to hire personal nutritionists.
Celebrities probably DO NOT do their own food shopping.
Celebrities can afford to hire a myriad of personal trainers.
Celebrities have $$ incentive to lose weight. They want to be hired for the next gig!
Basing your weight loss diet on the next celebrity fad is probably not a good idea. Unless of course you are a multi-millionaire and can afford it!
I never wanted to see this film. I heard everyone talking about it back in the 70s and they told me the story was about a young man who has sex with a old woman. Not quite what the story is about. It is the story of a 20 year old man (who is more like a child) who is obsessed with death. He “fake” commits suicide in front of his mother several times, just to get a rise out of her. Harold also attends funerals as much as he can. This is meets Maude, a 79 year old woman who lives life by her own set of rules. They become good friends.
Harold’s mother is fed up with his antics and tries to get him to marry, but that doesn’t seem to work out. His mother than decides that he must enroll in the Army. Harold and Maude set up a scheme to get him out of enrolling which leaves Harold’s uncle thinking he is completely psycho.
Maude’s friendship changes Harold’s life and in the end Harold starts to enjoying living.
I throughly enjoyed this movie. It is very 70ish, but has a interesting message. You will need to watch it more than once to get the subtle images and their deeper meanings.
Best parts of the film.
Maude. She is a riot. This is the wacky grandma or spinster aunt that everyone wants.
Harold is a little stiff, but it plays well with the plot.
Harold’s uncle’s fake arm. Don’t miss the salute!
Sunshine, one of Harold’s “dates.” His fake suicide attempt in this scene doesn’t go over so well.
It seems that high fashion in Europe eventually makes it way to the United States. Sometimes that includes car accessories as well. A new trend in Europe, led tail lights, is making its way here and you can now buy custom led tail lights for almost any make and model of car. I must say, they are pretty futuristic looking! But, since I drive a mini van, I don’t think I will make the switch!
