It seems that Steven Spielberg was asked if he was interested in directing the Harry Potter movies. Spielberg suggested that Haley Joel Osment play the character of Harry. Here is a comparison of the two actors.

I think they made a great choice with Daniel Radcliffe. He’s great in the role of Harry Potter. It’s good to see he’s doing other things now as well. He recently played Rudyard Kipling’s son who was killed in action in My Boy Jack. He’s a really good actor. He was good in Equus too.
