Teens Watching Less TV

July3

A market research company has found that tweens and teens are spending less time watching TV. This is important to advertisers who are trying to target the 11 – 17 year old group. The research suggests that outdoor and online advertisement is a more effective way to reach this age group. Watch out for more online ads!

Movie Props

July3

Every time I see a movie I wonder where they get all the props? Do they keep them on hand or do they actual go to furniture stores, electronic stores, grocery stores and the like? I am sure that a lot of props are re-used to save money so there must be a warehouse somewhere in Hollywood full of cool stuff.

There are companies that even specialize in the selling of used movie and TV props. You can buy the glove worn by Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2 with a custom display frame for only $2,969!

Saddle Shoes

July3

Saddle Shoes first gained popularity in the 50s and 60s when you could pick up a pair for about $3.00. Saddle Shoes are two-toned leather shoes most frequently seen in black and white. Other popular colors have included brown/white, blue/white, red/white and pink/white. Both the toe and the back are white. The name comes from the saddle of leather that is in the middle. This part also has the eyelets and laces.

The Saddle Shoe became less popular in the 70s (but the cheerleaders still wore them) and have gone in and out of popularity over the years. Today, a good pair of saddle shoes will run about $80.00.

Who doesn’t remember that cute kid – Dennis the Menace? Dennis the Menace was played by Jay North. Jay was born August 3, 1951 in Hollywood, California. Jay auditioned, along with 500 other kids, for the part of Dennis in 1959. Jay was selected for the part by the creator of Dennis the Menace, Hank Ketcham. Jay appeared in 146 episodes in four years. During this time he also appeared in a number of variety TV shows.

After Dennis was canceled, Jay appeared in two other TV shows, but then found that offers were drying up. He did the voice of Bamm-Bamm for the Flintstones int he 1960s but had a hard time adjusting for child star to regular person. After bouts with drugs, weight gain and several divorces, he successfully completed drug rehabilitation and now helps other child actors through the company A Minor Consideration.
