Gigantor
Gigantor! Gigantor! Gi gannnnn torrr! Gigantor, the space age robot. He’s at your command. Gigantor, the space age robot. His power is in your hands!
I still remember the theme song from this cartoon! Gigantor became a TV cartoon in 1964. It was based on the artwork of a Japanese artist, Mitsuteru Yokoyama. Fred Ladd took the concept of a 12-year old boy (Jimmy Sparks) who could control a huge robot (Gigantor). Of course, Jimmy had a scientist mentor by the name of Doctor Bob Brilliant. They would fight evil where ever they found it!
The original series was in black and white. In 1993, Ladd and a Tokyo animation studio, produced a new color series called “The New Adventures of Gigantor.”
Trivia – Jimmy voice was actually a girl! Billie Lou Watt provided the voice for Jimmy as well as Kimba (another popular cartoon of the era).
